Shrimp Feast 2009
The annual CVFD "Shrimp Feast" was held May 9. With about 450 supporters in attendance being entertained by the music of "Island Boy", the weather cooperated and a great time was had by everyone. The hard work of the members (ladies, juniors, and cadets included) concluded in the event being called a success.

Firefighters Jeffrey Bess, Tyler Butler, and Gerald Perkins took time on Tuesday (5/29) to test and flush hydrants throughout the Camptown community. All hydrants tested were in working condition. #TYFYS
On November 7th, 2014 Carrsville Members Hunter Alexander, Tyler Butler, Lynn Duke, Frankie Hasty Attended the Urbana Oyster Festival/Firemans Parade and brought home two first place trophies, Best Appearing 1250gpm and Greatest Distance Traveled
On Thursday Jan. 10, 2013 seventeen (17) members met at Station 20 @ 6PM for a pizza dinner and then headed to the airport training grounds for smokehouse training. Due to the building having limited use the artificial smoke machine was used. Captain Jamison organized the training and three revolutions were conducted: fire attack w/ ventilation, search and rescue and RIT. Deputy Chief Butler, Capt Duke, FF Smith assisted with groups.
On Friday Oct 12th several members presented Fire Prevention Week activities at Carrsville Elementary School. After talking about smoke detectors, stop - drop and roll, dangers of playing with fire, etc. students went out and got a chance to check out E20, E22 and EMS 20. Firefighters attending were Commissioner Duck, FF Duck, FF Carr, FF Minga, Captain West, FF Baggett, FF Winkles and FF O'Neal.
Saturday Feb. 18, 2012 again saw firefighters from Station 20 and Station 40 (Windsor VFD) working together with live fire training. This time Station 10 (Carrollton VFD) and Station 70 (Windsor VRS) also joined the activities. The training took place on Colossee Rd at an abandoned two story wood frame house donated by it's owner. Saturday Jan. 21, 2012 saw firefighters from Station 20 and Station 40 (Windsor VFD) working together with live fire training. The training took place on Bows and Arrows Rd at an abandoned two story wood frame house donated by it's owner. After looking the building over it was decided to work on exterior (defensive) tactics only.
EMS refresher training held at Station 20 was organized by Capt. Jamison. Although the ongoing training concentrates on CEU's, firefighters have been attending along with EMT's. Training is being provided by EMS instructor, Mr. Ed Tuck.

Station 20 was invited by Franklin Fire and Rescue to participate in training on Bank St. The buildings used were three, two story, twelve unit apartment buildings. Two departments were assigned to each building with instructions that they could be used for any training needed and they needed to be on the ground before sunset. Capt. West and FF O'Neal presented a fire safety talk to students at CES for about 85 students. After covering subjects such as not playing with fire, escape plans, fire extinguishers, stop - drop and roll, smoke detectors, and proper 911 use the students went out to see E20 and it's equipment. The students were then given a "goodie bag" of fire safety items.
Twenty two members participated in the SCBA refresher training led by Deputy Chief Butler and Capt. West. Dinner was held followed by an hour of classroom presentation on the importance of SCBA's and proper techniques. Then everyone moved to the bay for the hands on part of the training.
Friday October 9th Station 20 members visited Carrsville Elementary School for Fire Prevention Week. Attending were Captain Judson West, Lt. Trevor Duke, FF Frankie Hasty, FF Ryan West, FF Amber O'Neal, and Jr. FF Haleigh Pinto. More photos and a video in galleries.
Thursday October 8th the junior department trained on vehicle extrication. Leading the training were Commissioner Duck and Lt. Duke.
Congratulations to Firefighters Kyle Cobb, Amber O'Neal and Juniors Cody Holland, Brett Vaughan for achieving VA State Firefighter I and II certification. Congratulations to Junior Department members Cody Creech and Haleigh Pinto on achieving VA State Firefighter I certification.

New air packs More photos in gallery. Station 20 has taken delivery of thirty new Scott air packs, spare cylinders and three RIT packs as part of Isle of Wight County's plan to standardize SCBA's throughout the county.
New Air Compressor As part of IOW County's upgrade of breathing apparatus, a new breathing air compressor was installed.

Looking for a way to give back to your community? Consider joining our agency. We provide volunteer fire coverage and ems response to the surrounding community 24-7. Established in 1957, our Charter Members had a vision for providing a necessary service to our community. At the time, Franklin was the closest agency to respond in an emergency.
We recently lost our last active Charter Member. Walter Johnson was one of many that decided more needed to be done. This was not only a time commitment, but also an expense for members back then. If a new battery had to be purchased for a truck, they passed the hat amongst themselves to obtain the funds to purchase the battery. Today, every member has a set of state of the art turnout gear provided by the department. Back then, they purchased their own or had a hand me down set from another agency that they often had to share.
We live in different times. Now folks do not think of giving back. We expect these services to be provided by somebody else. Walter was certainly not one of those people. While he could not ride the trucks and fight fire anymore, he attended meetings and fundraisers. He was always around to keep us grounded, remind us of where we came from and provide much needed advice. His is a lost generation. We will not see more like him, though Lord knows we need them.
So I would ask that you consider stepping up; honor Walter and the others of his generation and give back. Volunteer to serve your community. We provide all the training and equipment. All we ask of you is your time!
Captain Weston Jamison
Capt. Jamison began his career with Carrsville VFD as a Firefighter in 2000. Since, he has put in an unprecedented amount of time and effort into making our department into what we are today. We are extremely thankful to have Captain Jamison on our team. Capt. Jamison is currently a career Lieutenant with the Portsmouth Fire Department, or "the best career department in Hampton Roads," as he would say. Capt. Jamison has 16 years "boots on the ground" with the PFD and almost 20 years "boots on the ground" with CVFD. When you can't find Capt. Jamison at PFD, CVFD, or the mill; one can usually find him livin' the beach life or by his pool at home. We can't thank Capt. Jamison enough for his many years of service to our community. #TYFYS, sir. Here's to many more years of "boots on the ground."
Here are some grilling tips that you should keep in mind:
SAFETY TIPS
- Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be
used outdoors.
- The grill should be placed well away from the
home, deck railings and out from under eaves and
overhanging branches.
- Keep children and pets at least three feet away
from the grill area.
- Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat
buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
- Never leave your grill unattended.
- Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before
lighting it.
